Retail Nirvana - 'The People's Supermarket'

I’m loving the Channel 4 documentary on ‘The People’s Supermarket’ and I wanted to spread the great work that they’re doing.

A supermarket run by volunteering shoppers – such a refreshing concept! A bit too idealistic for some, but with all the PR they’re getting I’m sure they’ll be here to stay and hopefully give the modern day giants a real run for their money.

For me ‘The People’s Supermarket’ beautifully illustrates the ability to take a hot trend (home grown/community/volunteering), develop an amazing vision and ethical idea, deliver an innovative alternative to the marketplace and connect the consumer to the brand by getting them involved at grass roots level! So smart. The idea of a local supermarket isn’t ground-breaking, but the story, values and mission behind it is!

Food for thought for the B2B marketers – how do you connect your customers to your brand/product/services at grass roots level? With so many choices out there, ‘connection’ could be an important ingredient.

I’ll be popping in to ‘The People’s Supermarket’ later this week to do my fruit & veg shopping and to show my support. Who knows, volunteering might even be on the cards!
